Huggies Upcoming Roadshow

Although both my kids have been potty trained, you will be surprised to know that we are still using diapers for them.  Currently my lil prince is using huggies dry pants and lil princess is still using Mamypoko but they only use it for night time.  We were so afraid of washing our bedsheets in the middle of the night as there has been several occasions of 'accidents' happened at night.  We had to wake up at wee hours in the morning to clean our kids and wash our bedsheets.  Hence, it's better to take precaution as I will not risk my beauty sleep again ^__^.  Last year December we started our potty training with lil princess and I hope I will have time to blog about it soon :P.

Year End Party Preparation (Part III) : Decorations

Delayed Post....

I was away for the past one week.  Sorry for not being able to visit your blogs.  Will catch up this week!  I'm sure I have missed lots of wonderful updates from you guys!
 
Here goes my Part III of the kids party.....
This year I wanted to have something special for lil prince class teacher as this was her last year teaching in this kindy.  I would like to let her know that we really appreciate all her guidance and also her hardwork in teaching all the kids in her class.  I felt that being a kindergarden teacher, is not easy to handle so many different types of kids.

After getting permission from her, I made some simple decorations for the class.  It started out with only some DIY banners which I printed on colour papers and tied it to a ribbon.

Next I took some nice photos from google and printed them out.  I was planning to paste it on her white board that she used for teaching.

Luckily I managed to take a photo on the day of the party.  Here's my simple decoration at the school.

I really adored these balloon flowers.  I always admired the colours and each time when we see a clown at the mall, we will not hesitate to line up to get one of these twisted balloons.  I was always curious to find out how these are made and hence I have decided to make my own.

I actually learned how to make these balloons flowers from youtube!  That's the benefit of internet nowadays.  Whenever we need to learn anything new, just google.  Well, it was not really easy (I'm a slow learner) but after a few trials, I'm glad that my balloon flower does look like a flower (although the shapes are a bit out ^__^)

 I made a so called bouquet of flowers for the teachers which comprises of three flowers.

 Then, I added some single flower balloons for the class decorations.

Year End Party Preparation (Part II) : Chocolate Marshmallows

The next item to prepare was my chocolate marshmallows.  This year, I didn't have time to make extra food due to time constraint.  Hence, I was only able to make the chocolate marshmallows. This year, during Teacher's Day celebration, I also make marshmallow pops.  I felt that this is the easiest thing to prepare ^__^ (hahaha...I'm such a lazy mummy).

However, this time I didn't use the lollipop sticks but I changed it to the cupcake liners instead.  I bought the golden colour cupcake liner from the bakery shop.

I used both white and dark chocolate this time as I wanted to try out the effects of using white chocolates.  I don't have a microwave at home, hence I just use double boiled method to melt the chocolates.  

Once the chocolate melted, dipped the marshmallows into the chocolate and let it stand on the plate.  Next, is to decorate the marshmallows :).  I put different type of sprinkles on it.   After that let it set in the fridge.

I had extra dark chocolates left overs and I thought it would be nice to try my writing skills on the marshmallows :P.  I put the melted chocolate inside my piping bag and wrote 'Thank You'.  My hands were shaking as this was the first time that  I am using my piping bag :). *sigh*....the alphabet doesn't really look nice.  Anyway, first time trying...hehehehe...need more practice.

There you go.....my chocolate marshmallows for the kids year end party.  Hope they like it.

Year End Party Preparation (Part I) : Mini Party Packs

We are getting ready for lil prince year end party at school.  I have planned to make some chocolates marshmallows and thought it would be nice to prepare some party packs for the kids too.

I bought some raisins, jelly, cocopie and the crispy was from lil prince which he got from the chocolate fair at midvalley last month.  I choose three types of cocopie (chocolate, strawberry and dark chocolate flavours).  Lil prince said the pink cocopie is for girls and the blue and brown ones are for boys :P.

We started packing yesterday as I was afraid that I won't have time to pack them if we do it last minute.  Furthermore, I prefer to pack earlier just in case, if the items are not enough, at least I still have time to add on.  

We put all the items in a small pack which I bought from the bakery shop and I printed "Happy Holidays"and asked lil prince to paste it on the pack.

There you go, our mini simple party pack just for the kids.  Wishing them Happy Holidays!   Next item lining up tonight is to make my chocolate marshmallows ^__^.

PlayDoh DYI Activity

We were at IPC last weekend and while browsing through Toys 'R' Us, we saw this PlayDoh DYI Activity that they were having at their store.  Took this opportunity to let the kids have some fun playing PlayDoh.  It was the last venue for the event as they had this activity at other Toys 'R' Us.  They set up a table near the entrance with a few chairs for kids.  Parents who happen to be shopping around also stop by and let their kids have fun.

One che che and one kor kor was  there to supervise the kids and to help them with this activity.  They brought along two sets of the PlayDoh 'machine' which was the cake making station and the magic swirl ice-cream.  With these two machine, the kids get to make their own 'cake' and 'ice-cream'.

I understand that PlayDoh helps children develop their motor skills and  their hand-eye coordination.  When my lil prince first started school, he had problems in holding the pencil, and I remembered his school teacher told me that PlayDoh activity will help him in manipulation of pencil grip.  I must admit that we seldom allows him to play with his PlayDoh due to the mess but once in a blue moon I do let him have some fun.  It's just that sometimes I find it a bit difficult to clean his fingers when the PlayDoh gets into his finger nails ^__^.

River Carnival by GAB Foundation at Zoo Negara

We were at the zoo last Saturday for the River Carnival by GAB Foundation.  I went with lil prince as hubby was away for business trip.  Surprisingly we were able to find our way to the zoo.  I haven't been there for ages and had no idea how to go there.  Thank God for smart phone and PAPAGO!.

We reached the zoo at  9.30am and make our way in.  The event organized by the GAB Foundation was held inside the zoo, around 5 minutes walk from the main entrance.  We arrived just in time for the opening ceremony by the VIPs.  After that we signed up for the Young River Scientist Programme.  In this programme, all kids were ushered to different stations explaining the importance of water and how we should save water.  There was also a station that taught the kids how to make candle.  So interesting.  Upon completing all the stations, each kid was given a bag and a water tumbler.

After participating at the Young Scientist River Programme, we went over to the station games.  There were six station and we had to collect all the 'stamps' for all six station before collecting our mystery gift.  The first station was throwing the rings into the empty bottles.  Of course lil prince never hit any, we still get one stamp.  Next station was so called 'driving range', lil prince had to 'drive' the ball from one end to the other end without dropping the ball in the holes.  Next station was the most difficult station of all!  I called it fishing station as we need to 'fish' up a bottle.  This was pretty difficult.  I had to queue up twice to get this task done.  Next was the matching game station whereby we had to match two ball into the same colour component.  Moving on was the basket ball station where we need to hit the net.  Last station was the golf station.  I help lil prince to hit the ball.  Upon completing all our six stations, we proceed to collect our mystery gift which was a set of angry birds stationaries.

It was almost 12pm when lil prince said he was hungry, so we made our way to the nearest restaurant.  We had nasi lemak and I bought a soft drink for him.  After lunch, we went round again to play the station games and got ourselves more mystery gifts.  This time with different colours :).  Then I decided to visit the zoo animals, coz it would be a waste coming to the zoo and not seeing any animals.  We only saw a hippopotamus on our way in.  But at that time, lil prince was too tired to walk, so I decided that we should take the tram.  Bought two tickets RM 3.00 for adult and RM 2.00 for child.  The tram ride was fun for lil prince as he does not need to walk and get to see some of the big animals such as giraffe, elephants and zebras.  We also saw tigers, flamingos and ostrich.  The tram ride was around 10 minutes and I think it only covers some part of the zoo.

After our tram ride, I wanted to call it a day but lil prince wanted to return to the carnival area.  We went there again, at first I was queuing up for the caricature drawing but the line was  long, then I decided that we should do some craft instead.  There was a craft area being set up for kids.  There were five crafts available for the kids to do, organized by In2Art.  Lil prince choose to do the octopus craft.  Upon completing his octopus craft, he said he wanted to do more.  I was surprise as he is not an 'art' person and he never like to do any colouring at home.  I could see that he was so interested in the craft, we stayed on and eventually ended up completing all the five crafts there!  I was so amazed that these crafts made him sat down for so long.

Next we went queuing to have lil prince caricature.  It was quite a long wait as the artist was really taking time time to draw each and everyone's expression.  He really had the patience!  By the time we completed our caricature drawing, it was almost 4.30pm!  I can't imagine we were at the zoo from 9.00am - 5pm.  Before we left, lil prince requested for another round of station games.  I guess we played the games a few round till the person in charge felt bored of entertaining us!  But for kids, that's the fun part.

Lil prince was indeed exhausted and fell asleep on our way back from the zoo.  Overall, we enjoyed ourselves so much and it was indeed a very educational event for adults and also for kids.  Here are some of the goodies that we collected from this River Carnival.

The Power of "Interactive" Play Parenting Workshop

Last Friday, I received a call from Parenthood Magazine informing me that I've won a pair of tickets to the Power of "Interactive" Play Parenting Workshop which I was looking forward to attend.  I remember I was just trying my luck to submit the contest form when I was reading the Parenthood Magazine (May Issue).  It was really a pleasant surprise as I thought I didn’t win.   

Although it was a bit rush, we managed to make some arrangements so that I can attend the talk.  On the same day, we had Parents Teachers Day meeting at lil prince kindy too.  We reached the Empire Hotel at 9.45am, just on time before the workshop starts.   We were seated in a table of 10 pax.

The were some booth around giving information regarding their products such as Fisher Price, Nestle, Jordan and Baby Love.

The speaker was Carrie Lupoli, an Educational Consultant.  The workshop started at 10.15am.  It was an interesting workshop as there were some activities in between of the talks.  There was also a break for refreshments at around 12.00pm.  Ms. Carrie shared with us why play is important for a child and the types of toys that is suitable according to the child’s development. 

She also embedded an activity that requires us to find the answers for 10 things every child needs.  Each tables had different number of answers and we were asked to go around to get the answers from the other tables.  It also give us a chance to mingle with other members in the workshop too.

It was indeed a wonderful event as I get to learn why play is important for a child development and how a child learn thorough play.

I often think that playing is a waste of time until I attended this talk.  When a child plays, he / she also learns through play.  I guess from today onwards, my kids will be very happy to have more and more playtime with mummy!!

 

We were also given a goodie bag for the workshop that consist of some toys, nestle cerelac, jordan tooth brush and etc.  There were also some free diapers for lil princess from Baby Love.

Go Green With Leo

We just registered the kids for the Leo Club two months ago.  I received an email from Leo Club that they were having some activities during the school holidays.  One of the event was Go Green and we signed up for the event on 9 June.  Even our lil princess participated in this event.

We reached Sunway Pyramid at 10.15am on that day and registered ourselves.  The event was held at the LG1 Concourse.  Upon registration, each of them were given a button badge and a sticker with their names on it.  All the kids were ushered to be seated in front of the stage while the MC introduced herself and started the event by explaining about the importance of recycle.  We learnt about the big 3Rs --> Reduce, Reuse and Recycle! It was a very educational talk as the MC taught the kids about the importance of recycle and how to save our environment.  They also taught the kids how to use the three different kinds of recycle bins that they have in their malls.  The brown ones are for plastics and cans, the blues ones for paper and the last one is for cans.

After the talk, all the kids were ushered outside (at the other end of the entrance) for gardening activity. They also provided a pair of gloves for the kids.  Each kid was given a plant and they were required to put it in the pot provided. 

Lil prince had two plants because daddy was missing with lil princess.  Both of them went ronda-ronda in between the event.  Anyway, lil prince enjoyed this activity as he get to put the plants in the pot, water it and add on some soil and also a tag at the end of the activity.  He loves this gardening activity as this was his first time touching the soil, I guess :).  The next day, he asked me to bring him to Sunway Pyramid again!

After the gardening session, we went back to the center stage and there was some Q & A for the kids followed by the certificate giving ceremony for each kids.  We were also given a goodie bag together with the certificate.  I only took lil princess to collect her certificate as lil prince didn't want to go on stage.  There was also a photography session at the end before we proceed for our lunch.

Lunch was also FOC for the kids.  The lunch was provided by Wendy's.  Each of them had a burger, fries and a soft drink.

This was indeed a wonderful event for the kids. They get to learn a lot!

Here are the things from the goodie bags.  There were key chains, baskin robbins voucher, facial wash, recycle pens and pencils and sweets.  Guess what the kids like the most from the goodie bags?......Chocolates!  The Cocoa Tree shop was very generous in sponsoring the chocolates in the goodies bag.  We had two bags.

First Visit To Petrosains

We started off our school holidays by going to Petrosains.  I wanted to use the complimentary voucher that we received previously as it was expiring on 31 May.  We thought it would be nice to bring the kids to Petrosains since we are not planning to go anywhere during the school holidays.  I guess as working parents, our kids holidays are whenever we get to take off from work, instead of following their school holidays.

Anyway, we got to go Petrosains FOC this time as the ticket covers two adults and two kids.  It was lil prince and lil princess first time going to Petrosains and my second time there.  Due to school holidays, this place was also packed with school kids.  However, the kids did get a chance to play on most of the exhibits there although some of them were not functioning.  The lighting inside was a bit dark, hence the photo that I took didn't turn out well.  I was only using my camera phone as I forgot to bring my camera!

I was happy to see that the Petronas Streetsmart exhibition was still there and of course both my kids jumped on to the racing car!

Lil princess also get to play at the Tot Spot area.  This was new as the other time when I was there, I don't recall seeing this area for kids.

Among so many items there, I like the 3D show the most!  We watched the Sea Dragoon show for 10 minutes.  I was surprise that there were so many things to see at Petrosains.  I'm definately going to go there again when the kids are older.  We went in at 1.30pm and came out at 5.00pm!  Imagine spending 3.5 hours inside.

By the time we reached home, both of them were already in their dreamland...z.z.z.z.z.z.z

Mickey Mouse @ Midvalley

We went to Midvalley last weekend and since it was a school holidays, we went there early to secure a parking.  During school holidays, this shopping center is packed with lots of shoppers.  We went there at 10.00am and managed to rent the stroller for my lil princess too.

The other reason we went there was to see the giant mickey mouse!  Lil princess kept on saying 'mimi mouse' (she still can't pronounce it correctly yet ^__^).  It was kind of hard to take photos too as there were lots of people there as expected since it was weekend plus it's school holidays.

There were so many different kinds of mickey mouse.  I only managed to snap a few mickey mouse.

We had lunch at TGIF as we need to utilize our food voucher that we redeem from our credit cards last year.  It was going to expired.  We ordered the tennessee chicken and shrimp for ourselves and the kids get to share the fish and chips.  We also ordered the stuffed mushroom.  At TGIF, you get a free kids meal when you ordered a main course.  Luckily we only ordered one main course as we had to finish the kids meal too.

We only visited the Tupperware party which was at the exhibition hall and Toys R Us in Midvalley on that day.  We decided to call it a day as there were too many people.  I guess it is due to the school holidays that everyone take the opportunity to do some shopping and to bring the kids around.

 Among all the mickey mouse there, this one is my favourite!
